Fall 2020 Class Operations

(updated as of August)


◎ Under Social Distancing measures Level 1 

  · A mixture of online and offline classes will be offered to mitigate the concentration of students.

◎ Under Social Distancing measures Level 2

  · In-person classes will be minimally conducted only when necessary, and the majority of classes will turn online. 

◎ Under Social Distancing measures Level 3 

  · All classes will turn online and entry to the campus will be restricted. 

◎ In-person classes and exams will be held under thorough disinfection and prevention measures.


○ Classes will be conducted between September 1 to December 14 (15 weeks) / Make-up classes may be held between December 15 to 20.  

 

 Course change period has been extended and will be conducted on a non-face-to-face basis.

  - Course change period (Add & Drop): September 1 – 14 (2 weeks) 

  - Course override is processed on a non-face-to-face basis in the same manner as in the 1st semester (Spring 2020).

 

 Policies and Procedures

  - For General Elective (including Subject for Liberal Education) courses, theory (lecture-based) classes will be offered on a non-face-to-face basis, while practice (experiment/lab/practice-based) classes (including language courses) will be partly in-person. 

  - Major (including Requisite or Elective Subject for Major) courses will be held either on a non-face-to-face or in-person basis.

  - Non-face-to-face classes will be held in the same manner as in the 1st semester (Spring 2020). (Real-time online lecture through ZOOM, video-recorded lectures, etc.)

  - In-person classes will be conducted abiding by COVID-19 disinfection and prevention measures. 

  - Class operations for each course (4 types, Type A - D available) and any changes will be updated on the course syllabus and eTL.

  - In September, in-person class operations will be minimized or turn online

 Attendance Policy by Class Operations 

  - Depending on the class operations (in-person or non-face-to-face), students must make attendance according to the attendance policy of each class. If one cannot make attendance to class due to COVID-19 related concerns, they must address it to the instructor for further guidance.


  A. Class Attendance Policy for Non-face-to-face Class

    ㆍ Students must make attendance according to the type of non-face-to-face class (joining the real-time online lecture, watching the video-recorded lecture, etc.)  

    ㆍ To ask questions after class, students can use Q&A function through eTL.

    ㆍ For video-recorded lectures, attendance is acknowledged only when students watch it less than 2x speed.     

  B. Class Attendance Policy for In-person Class

    ㆍ Students must comply with the latest government’s policies and SNU COVID-19 Response Manual

    ㆍ Students must check in-person class schedule of each course and make attendance accordingly.

    ㆍ Before entering the building or classroom, students are required to fill out a questionnaire and have their body temperature measured. Students must use hand sanitizer and wear a facemask as well.

      * If the body temperature is higher than 37.5℃, students will be guided to have their temperature measured again after some time, upon guidance of the staff, and if the temperature is higher than 37.5℃ for both checks, students will be required to return home immediately. 

    ㆍ Students must keep a distance from classmates. 

    ㆍ Students must return home immediately after class.


 Attendance Policy by COVID-19 Criteria

  - In compliance with SNU COVID-19 Response Manual, students in the following categories must follow the required procedure.


  A. Those with COVID-19 Report Duties: Confirmed Patients, Suspected Patients, Symptomatic Cases under Investigation, Self-Quarantine  (under active surveillance)

    1) Report your status to the college/program office.

    ㆍ Administrative office of the affiliated college (Daytime) / SNU Health Service Center’s Emergency Response Team (Nighttime) 

    ㆍ In compliance with the guidance, students must report their on-campus route, persons that have been in contact, etc. 

    2) Go under self-quarantine for the following time period. (During the quarantine period, it is not allowed to enter the campus.)

    ㆍ Confirmed Patients: Until being confirmed to be fully recovered (discharged)

    ㆍ Suspected Patients: Even when being tested negative, until the noon of the 15th day from the day when they made the last contact with the confirmed case

    ㆍ Symptomatic Cases under Investigation: Upon COVID-19 test; discharged when being tested negative;    For symptomatic students who newly (re-)enter Korea, self-quarantine for 14 days

    ㆍ Self-Quarantine  (under active surveillance): Until the noon of the 15th day from the day when they made the last contact with the confirmed case;    For students who newly (re-)enter Korea, self-quarantine for 14 days

    3) Attendance policy during the self-quarantine period

    ㆍ For non-face-to-face class, join the class at home.

    ㆍ For in-person class, report it to the instructor and join the alternative that is provided by the instructor.

   4) Participation in In-person class after self-quarantine 

    ㆍ Confirmed patients must take a confirmation from their college administrative office and SNU Health Service Center before entering the campus.


  B. Those in Contact with Suspected/Symptomatic Patients

    1) Return home immediately after being confirmed to have been in contact with the suspected patient or symptomatic cases under investigation. 

    ㆍ Students who (may) have been in contact with the cases above must sanitize their hands and return home, wearing a facemask. 

    ㆍ For in-person classes that they cannot join (until being tested negative), students must report it to the instructor and have the absences officially excused.

    2) Take a COVID-19 diagnostic test at the state-designated medical facilities; in case being tested negative, they can enter the campus.
